The Sound Not The Word is dedicated to exploring the underground, mainly focusing on metal, punk, hardcore, and other genres and acts that may be of interest, such as noise and avant garde.
I didn’t get to play in a band, so I write about other people’s bands instead. It’s my attempt to support the music I like beyond just buying records.
I live in the Midlands, UK, and aim to mainly write about things I like in a fair manner. Just because I listen to something it doesn’t mean I agree with the views it expresses. I try not to be a jerk.
Whilst I fully believe in freedom of expression, I have no desire to promote bands and music that is overtly racist/homophobic/sexist/fascist/etc. Such views are contrary to what I believe in, and spoil music I would otherwise enjoy.
As of the end of July 2014, I have removed the score system from new reviews. Ranking music on such a system has come to feel increasingly difficult, and I feel that it is better suited to shorter reviews than the format I typically use. Old reviews shall retain their scores, but new ones shall not have them.
