Summoning Spirits has just published a review of one of my most anticipated albums of the year, Savage Gold by Tombs. It does not disappoint.
“I’d been waiting a good while for this. Tombs’ previous album, Path Of Totality, was one of my favourite albums of 2011, and has seen plenty of spins since release. They’re one of the most unique bands operating in metal today, pulling in elements of death, black, doom, hardcore, and post-punk to form a cohesive whole that has no real contemporaries. Don’t let that description put you off – the band, led by guitarist/vocalist Mike Hill (formerly of Anodyne, another band that belonged to no single style), keep a very tight rein on the songs, and it never feels like the diverse styles are pulling away from each other. Instead, much like their previous records, Savage Gold is a great example of how a host of influences can work together, creating something hard-hitting, captivating, and uniquely dark.”
